Session notes that clients actually read (and act on)

Notes are more than compliance — they're the connective tissue between sessions. Here's how to write ones that keep clients engaged all week.

Practitioner writing session notes on a tablet

The best practitioners we work with treat session notes as a communication tool, not a filing cabinet. A well-written note keeps a client in the work between sessions — and that is where results actually happen.

Three sections, always

  • What we did today — a short summary in plain language
  • What to focus on before we meet again — 1 to 3 concrete actions
  • What we'll work on next — sets the frame for the next session

Send them within 24 hours

A note delivered three days later is a note nobody reads. Automate the delivery so it lands the same evening, while the session is still fresh.
